About Me

About Me
I'm the Creative Fanatic also known as Daria McGuire. I am married to a wonderful man Rob, the best handyman in the world and he cooks (that's such a plus).
I have to add that being Irish, Rob's wicked sense of humour has always kept me on an even keel...nothing is sacred and therefore, is not to be taken seriously. Life is too short.
Our household also includes Ziggy and Zoe, two cuddly and loving cats that a friend rescued and we adopted as part of our family.
My background started with teaching and then moved onto textiles, mainly yarn. Needlepoint, knitting and crochet were always something I loved to do, however sewing and embroidery were not far behind. Opportunities came in the form of design editorials from several major craft magazines which included Vogue Knitting Magazine, a major highlight.
Careerwise, I've worked for a chain of yarn shops as a Fashion Director and a major yarn manufacturer as a Design and Marketing Director. Opportunities within my job continued in the form of travel and meeting very talented, exciting people.
Stimulating would be a good description and fortunate to have been able to design exciting, very successful programmes which included developing wonderful yarns and colour stories.
All creative aspects of design are inspiration in challenging myself to look for new methods of using familiar materials.
I have always loved vintage anything, especially jewelry. Over the years I've taken many jewelry courses and love working in different mediums...copper enamelling, silver, polymer clay, beading, anything that is decorative. You can take a look at some other pieces I've designed and made.
Finally, I'm ecstatic to have found my inner geek. This blog took a lot of sweat and tears, hairpulling and swearing. But, in the end, this is something I'm extremely proud of.
I started Diary of a Creative Fanatic as a place to share my passion for design. Hopefully, you will also be inspired in the same way I am.

  2. Finding your blog/website was like hitting gold !I am by nature a creative soul in anything I make and I love to knit. I was often frustrated by a lack of basic shaped clothing and so was excited to find you .I eagerly await your e-mail updates and ignore everything else to savor them! One thing though....I have a problem printing the patterns etc . too fuzzy and light. Not sure why and not a problem with other things I print.print. Do you have a book published?

    1. Hi,
I'm delighted that you enjoy my posts and in answer to your light and fuzzy dilemma, I am thinking of not inserting patterns into jpgs
Hopefully in the future you'll be able print a better quality of pattern.
Keep on reading and all the best with any projects you decide to make.
I don't have anything published...yet but who knows what the future holds ;)))
      Cheers,
      Daria

  3. Great blog! Just what I've been looking for to take my knitting to the next level. Thank you! BTW, try using .png files instead of .jpegs. You may be pleased with the result. Looking forward to your posts & plan to review the archives. Best wishes.
